A new home on a desert lot on the east side of Tucson needed a complete septic system before it could be occupied. The work was finished in June 2026, and the system passed its Pima County inspection and is in service.
The lot sits on hard, rocky ground with saguaros that were staying, so the system layout had to work around both. G & J dug the test pits for the engineer’s soil evaluation, coordinated the design and the Pima County permit, then built the system to the stamped plans.
Scope
- Test pits where the engineer specified, for the soil evaluation and design
- Plans and permit coordinated with the engineer and Pima County
- Excavation for the concrete septic tank, set level on a prepared base with risers brought to grade
- Sewer line trench from the house to the tank, cut to hold fall
- Distribution box and lateral lines out to the leach field
- Leach field trenches cut into rock and caliche, perforated pipe laid to grade
- Inspections coordinated at the stages the permit required, then backfill and finish grading
Challenges
Rock and caliche through the leach field area meant slow trenching and careful attention to keeping the trench bottoms level so the field drains evenly. The layout also had to keep clear of the saguaros on the lot.
Outcome
The system passed the Pima County inspection and is in service. The trenches were backfilled and the area graded so surface water drains away from the tank and the leach field.
