From raw land to a buildable site
Site preparation is everything that has to happen before construction can start: getting the vegetation off, removing what is in the way, cutting and filling to grade, building the pad, and making sure trucks and trades can get in and out. G & J Excavating handles the full sequence for residential lots and commercial sites so the builder shows up to a site that is ready.
Site preparation scope
- Clearing and grubbing of brush, trees, roots and surface debris, with protected native plants handled according to the approved plan.
- Demolition and removal of small structures, slabs, old fencing and driveways where the project requires it.
- Excavation and grading to bring the site to design grade, including cuts, fills and compaction.
- Building pads for homes, garages, outbuildings and commercial structures.
- Construction access including temporary roads, staging areas and stabilized entrances.
- Utility preparation including trenching for water, sewer, electrical and communications, coordinated with the utility providers and other trades.
- Drainage including swales, temporary erosion control and rough drainage structures.
Residential site prep
A new home site in the Tucson area typically needs clearing, a pad, a driveway cut, utility trenches and rough grading, plus a septic system if the lot is not on sewer. We can scope all of it together so the lot is handed to the builder in one pass rather than in pieces.
Commercial site work
For commercial projects we work from the civil set and the general contractor’s schedule: clearing, mass grading, pads, utility rough-ins and construction access, coordinated with the superintendent and the testing firm. We understand that site work sets the schedule for every trade after it.
Desert site conditions
Native plant preservation requirements, caliche, rock, sandy washes and monsoon runoff are all normal in Southern Arizona. We plan for them rather than discovering them mid-job, and we tell you during the estimate what the site is likely to present.
