Sahuarita has grown quickly around master-planned communities such as Rancho Sahuarita and Quail Creek, with newer housing stock, commercial development along Interstate 19 and Sahuarita Road, and rural parcels toward the Santa Rita Mountains and the pecan orchards along the Santa Cruz River.

Ground conditions
Much of Sahuarita sits on the flat Santa Cruz valley floor, with deep alluvial soils that dig readily but can include caliche layers. Flat sites make drainage grading especially important because there is little natural slope to work with. Toward the mountains the ground turns rocky and slopes increase.
Permitting
Work inside town limits is permitted through the Town of Sahuarita; parcels outside the boundary go through Pima County. Septic systems anywhere in the area are permitted through the county.
